The Effect of Wind on the Propagation of an Idealized Forest Fire
نویسندگان
چکیده
A reaction-diffusion model for the propagation of an idealized forest fire is revisited to include the effect of wind on the speed of propagation. We study the existence of one-dimensional travelling wave solutions. When the wind velocity is zero or when the wind blows from the burning region, the existence and uniqueness of the travelling wave is proved. In the case when the wind blows into the burning region, we show that there exist at least two travelling wave solutions for small wind speed, and there is no travelling wave solutions for large wind speed. The analysis relies on comparison principles whereby the questions of existence and uniqueness are addressed via the construction of appropriate lower and upper solutions for the travelling waves. The theoretical results are supplemented with numerical examples for each case of wind velocity.

Forest fire models are generally used in different aspects of fire management and are helpful in understanding and prediction of fire behavior. Forest fires cause a significant damage for public property by destroying a large tract of forest. This helps fire fighters to focus on an area with greater risk and to develop better substructure for fire fighter training and ultimately to plan fire-f...

Wind is one of the main forces affecting the rate of forest fire spread. It may either increase or decrease the energy transferred toward the unburned areas. The present study is devoted to understanding the effect of wind on the propagation of forest fires. To model the propagation of forest fires a semiphysical approach is used. By this approach forest fire is considered as an adiabatic combu...

At present, there is no conventional scientific method to evaluate the area of the burnt regions of forests and in this field, the related organizations use different methods and variables. Also, the speed in performing the processes of area computing and damage evaluation, especially in the extensive damaged forest regions is very slow; consequently, the expression of results takes more ti...
